Description

Spiderweb Guacamole is an easy and healthy Halloween dip with creamy avocado and bright lime plus fresh onion and jalapeño plus a spooky sour cream web and olive spider. It is quick to mix and simple to decorate so it works for last minute ideas and makes one of the best party starters. Serve it for a weeknight dinner snack or meal prep treat or holiday potluck or brunch spread or Halloween party with crisp tortilla chips for dipping for festive homemade fun.

Ingredients

  • 3 large Ripe avocados
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 cup finely diced Red onion
  • 2 tablespoons chopped Fresh cilantro
  • 1 small finely diced Jalapeño
  • 1 small seeded and finely diced Roma tomato
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Fine sea salt
  • 1/3 cup Sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon Whole milk
  • 3 large pitted olives Black olives
  • 4 cups Tortilla chips

Instructions

  1. Finely dice the quarter cup red onion and the one small jalapeño plus the one small seeded Roma tomato so the pieces stay irregular yet small enough to fold through the avocado.

Chop the two tablespoons cilantro and cut the three black olives so one olive can become the spider body while the remaining pieces form eight uneven legs.

  2. Scoop the flesh from all three avocados and mash it with the two tablespoons lime juice plus the half teaspoon garlic powder and half teaspoon sea salt until mostly creamy.

Leave several small avocado chunks visible so the mixture looks homemade while the lime becomes fully distributed through the green base.

  3. Fold the quarter cup diced red onion plus the two tablespoons chopped cilantro plus the diced jalapeño and diced Roma tomato into the mashed avocado.

Mix only until the colorful pieces are unevenly distributed so red and purple and green bits remain clearly visible instead of disappearing into a smooth puree.

  4. Transfer all of the guacamole into a wide shallow serving bowl and spread it into a slightly uneven layer with soft ridges around the edges.

Combine the one third cup sour cream with one teaspoon milk and form several imperfect rings from the center outward then drag narrow lines through the rings so they become a loose spiderweb.

  5. Arrange the three prepared black olives into one spider over the sour cream web with a rounded body and eight uneven legs while leaving parts of the web clearly visible.

Scoop one portion onto a white plate with several tortilla chips and keep the guacamole chunky with naturally uneven edges plus visible vegetables and streaks of the web.

Notes

Pro Tips:

  • Choose ripe avocados that yield slightly to pressure because they mash smoothly while still keeping a little homemade texture.
  • Add the lime juice as soon as the avocados are mashed because the acidity brightens the flavor and helps slow browning.
  • Thin the sour cream only enough to pipe clean lines because a runny mixture can sink into the guacamole instead of sitting on top.
  • Build the olive spider after drawing the web so the body and legs stay clearly visible and the finished dip looks playful rather than crowded.

Storage: Transfer leftover Spiderweb Guacamole to a container that fits the amount closely so there is less open space above the dip. Smooth the surface gently while keeping the remaining decoration as intact as possible.

Cover the guacamole with food safe wrap pressed directly against the surface because reducing contact with air helps slow browning. Seal the container and refrigerate it promptly.

Enjoy the refrigerated guacamole within one to two days for the freshest color and texture. Some darkening may still happen naturally although the dip can be gently stirred before serving again.

Freezing is not recommended for the decorated version because the sour cream web can separate and the fresh vegetables can lose their crisp texture after thawing.
