This Pizza Fries recipe is one of my favorite meals when I’m craving pizza but want something a little more fun. Inspired by classic pepperoni pizza and loaded cheese fries I’ve packed my fries with crispy golden potatoes and gooey mozzarella cheese along with savory pepperoni and plenty of rich pizza sauce.

It’s also loaded with flavor from the Italian seasoning and garlic powder and it’s so easy to customize based on whatever leftovers you have in your fridge or toppings you want to add!
I also love preparing the ingredients ahead of time and enjoying these fries for an easy family dinner or game day snack! If you enjoy comforting recipes with savory sausage flavors then you should also try my Italian Sausage Soup for another satisfying meal.
Ingredients

Here is what I use for this recipe :
- Frozen French Fries: Thick cut frozen french fries provide the crispy golden potato base that supports the pizza sauce and melted cheese without becoming too soft.
- Olive Oil: A light coating of olive oil helps the fries develop crisp edges and a beautifully golden exterior while baking.
- Italian Seasoning: A blend of dried Italian herbs gives the potatoes a familiar pizza inspired flavor that complements the cheese and pepperoni.
- Garlic Powder: Garlic powder adds savory depth to the fries and helps balance the rich tomato sauce and melted mozzarella.
- Pizza Sauce: Thick pizza sauce adds tangy tomato flavor and creates the classic pizza taste without completely soaking the crispy fries.
- Shredded Mozzarella Cheese: Shredded mozzarella melts into stretchy and creamy layers that connect the fries and hold the pepperoni in place.
- Pepperoni: Pepperoni slices add a rich savory flavor and develop slightly curled and crisp edges during the final baking stage.
- Grated Parmesan Cheese: Parmesan adds a nutty and salty finishing flavor while creating contrast with the mild melted mozzarella.
- Fresh Basil: Fresh basil adds a bright herbal finish and small green accents that balance the richness of the finished dish.
Tools I Use :
- Large Rimmed Baking Sheet: Holds the potatoes in a spread out layer for even browning and supports the toppings during the final cheese melting stage.
- Parchment Paper: Lines the baking sheet and helps prevent the fries and melted cheese from sticking during cooking.
- Large Mixing Bowl: Provides space to toss the frozen fries with oil and seasonings before spreading them on the baking sheet.
- Measuring Cups and Spoons: Measure the pizza sauce and cheese and seasonings so the quantities remain balanced.
- Spatula: Helps flip the potatoes during baking and lift the finished cheesy fries into individual servings.
- Oven: Cooks the frozen potatoes until crispy and melts the cheese while lightly browning the pepperoni.
- White Serving Plates: Hold the four individual portions and make it easy to serve the loaded fries while they are still hot.
- Kitchen Knife: Chops the fresh basil into small pieces for a fragrant and colorful finishing garnish.
Instructions
Step 1: Coat the frozen fries with olive oil and seasonings

Preheat your oven to 425°F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the 24 oz of frozen french fries on the baking sheet and drizzle with 1 tablespoon of olive oil before sprinkling 1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning and 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder over the potatoes. Toss the fries until the seasoning is distributed across their surfaces and spread them into a loose single layer. Leave a little space between the pieces where possible so the edges can become crispy during baking.
Tip: Keep the fries in a mostly single layer with natural gaps because overcrowding can trap moisture and prevent the potatoes from becoming crispy.
Step 2: Bake the fries until golden and crispy

Place the baking tray into the preheated oven and bake for approximately 22 to 25 minutes or until the fries become golden and crispy. Flip and rearrange them halfway through cooking so the potatoes brown on multiple sides rather than staying pale underneath. Remove the tray when the fries have firm golden edges and a few darker toasted spots. Push the cooked fries into a slightly closer and uneven layer in the middle of the tray to create a stable base for the pizza toppings.
Tip: Bake the fries until the edges are genuinely crisp before adding pizza sauce because soft potatoes can become soggy beneath the toppings.
Step 3: Layer the pizza sauce and mozzarella with pepperoni

Spoon 3/4 cup of thick pizza sauce over the baked fries in uneven ribbons and small patches. Leave some golden potato edges visible because completely covering the fries can soften their crispy texture. Scatter 1 1/2 cups of shredded mozzarella across the sauced fries and distribute exactly 24 pepperoni slices over the cheese. Slightly overlap a few pepperoni slices while leaving others separated so the finished dish has the casual appearance of homemade loaded fries.
Tip: Use thick pizza sauce and scatter it in small patches rather than soaking every fry so the potatoes stay crisp beneath the toppings.
Step 4: Melt the cheese and crisp the pepperoni

Return the baking tray to the oven and bake for another 5 to 7 minutes until the mozzarella melts and begins bubbling around the pepperoni. Watch carefully because the cheese should become creamy with a few lightly golden spots rather than turning dry. Remove the fries once the pepperoni edges begin to curl and brown. The cheese should connect the fries in irregular melted patches while some crispy potatoes remain visible around the edges.
Tip: Watch the final baking stage closely and remove the fries when the cheese bubbles and the pepperoni curls to avoid drying out the toppings.
Step 5: Plate and garnish the finished Pizza Fries

Divide the freshly baked Pizza Fries into four equal servings and transfer one portion onto a white serving plate. Gently lift the fries so a few strands of melted mozzarella remain stretched between the uneven layers. Finish the full batch with 2 tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese and 1 tablespoon of chopped fresh basil distributed across all four servings. Serve immediately while the cheese is soft and the fries still have crispy edges.
Tip: Serve immediately after garnishing because the cheese stays pleasantly stretchy while the potatoes keep their contrasting crispy texture.
Pro Tips
- Choose thick cut frozen french fries because they hold their shape under the pizza sauce and melted cheese better than very thin fries.
- Avoid adding pizza sauce before the fries become golden and crisp because the extra moisture can prevent proper browning in the oven.
- Shred mozzarella from a block when possible because freshly shredded cheese usually melts more smoothly than packaged shredded varieties.
- Add fresh basil only after baking so the leaves keep their bright green color and fresh flavor instead of turning dark in the oven.
Storage Instructions
Pizza Fries taste best immediately after baking because the combination of crispy potatoes and melted cheese is most enjoyable while hot. If you have leftovers then allow them to cool briefly before transferring them to an airtight container. Store leftover Pizza Fries in the refrigerator for up to 3 to 4 days when properly refrigerated. Keep them at 40°F or below and refrigerate within two hours of cooking to maintain food safety.
For reheating you can spread the leftover fries on a baking sheet and warm them in an oven at 375°F until heated through to 165°F. This method helps restore some crispness to the potatoes while gently melting the cheese again. An air fryer also works well for reheating smaller portions because the circulating hot air helps crisp the potato edges. Reheat in a single loose layer until thoroughly hot and avoid overcrowding the basket.
Freezing assembled Pizza Fries is not recommended because the tomato sauce and melted cheese can change texture after thawing. For the best results keep frozen fries separate and add fresh toppings immediately before baking.
