Description

Crescent Roll Witch Hats are an easy and quick Halloween snack with flaky pastry and creamy cheese plus colorful pepper bands. They are a simple choice for a holiday party or potluck and they also work for brunch or a playful weeknight dinner. This best homemade idea feels festive without being fussy while the portion size stays light enough for a healthy balance beside fruit or vegetables. Serve them warm for crisp edges and soft savory centers everyone can enjoy.

Ingredients

  • 1 tube with 8 triangles Refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 4 ounces softened Cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup Shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1/2 small pepper Green bell pepper
  • 1 large egg Egg
  • 1 teaspoon Water
  • 1 teaspoon Black sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Combine the softened cream cheese with the shredded cheddar and garlic powder until the separate ingredients become one thick pale orange mixture. Leave a few visible cheddar strands and uneven swirls so the filling looks naturally mixed rather than perfectly smooth.
  2. Spread the eight crescent triangles apart and place a narrow portion of cheese filling near the wide end of every triangle before folding the dough over the filling. Stretch each pointed end upward and bend it slightly to create eight irregular hat shapes with uneven bases and naturally different tips.
  3. Place one thin green pepper strip across the lower section of each shaped hat and press the ends lightly against the dough. Shift the eight hats farther apart on the baking tray and leave the pepper bands slightly uneven so every hat has its own homemade shape.
  4. Coat the exposed dough with a thin layer of beaten egg and water until the pale surface develops a light glossy sheen. Scatter the black sesame seeds unevenly over the eight hats while leaving parts of the dough uncovered for a naturally speckled finish.
  5. Bake the eight hats until the dough expands into visible flaky layers and changes from pale beige to uneven golden brown. The pointed tips become slightly darker while the cheese softens inside and a few seams release small toasted patches of melted cheddar.
  6. Transfer one warm hat onto a white plate and cut through the wide base to expose the creamy melted cheese filling inside the flaky layers. Angle the two uneven pieces beside each other with the green pepper band still visible and scatter a few black sesame seeds nearby.

Notes

Pro Tips:

  • Keep the cheese filling away from the edges so the dough seals firmly and the creamy center stays inside while baking.
  • Shape every pointed tip a little differently because uneven bends create a more playful and convincing group of witch hats.
  • Slice the pepper into thin flexible strips so each band follows the dough without lifting away as the pastry expands.
  • Serve the hats shortly after baking for the best contrast between crisp flaky pastry and the warm creamy cheese center.

Storage: Allow leftover Crescent Roll Witch Hats to cool completely before storing them because trapped warmth can create moisture and soften the flaky pastry. Place the hats in a single loose layer inside an airtight container and refrigerate them for up to three days with parchment between layers when stacking is necessary. Reheat the hats in the oven until the outside becomes crisp and the cheese filling feels warm and avoid the microwave when possible because it can make the pastry soft. For longer storage freeze the cooled hats on a tray until firm and then transfer them to a freezer safe container for up to one month before reheating from frozen.
